The Willow-Wren and the Bear

The challenge this week at Simon Says Stamp is to get inspiration from a Fairy Tale or Nursery Rhyme. When I was teaching, I loved to read Fairy Tales by the Grimm Brothers to my students and The Willow-Wren and the Bear was one of my favorites.

So, I had to use my Bird Builder Punch once again! (If you are new to my website and you look around, you will see that I love birds!) The Early Espresso Card Stock represents the bear, the red button-the fox, the vintage trim – the queen, and the bird-the King of the Birds. I even used a fancy flourish to represent the kingdom. I’ve made cards like this before in different colors, but this one is my favorite because there’s an underlying story behind it! Hope you like it as much as I do. this was such a fun challenge!

Cards & Things Challenge

This is the card I’m entering in the Cards & Things Challenge this week. The card was made with Very Vanilla Card Stock. I layered a piece of Tangerine Tango CS, which was embossed with the Vintage Wallpaper Embossing Folder, on the front of the card. I cut out a piece of First Edition Specialty Paper with the Top Note Bigz Die, cut off the right side of it, sponged the edges with Tangerine Tango Ink, and adhered it to the card front.  The bird, the bird’s wing and the branch were all punched out using the Build a Bird Punch. They were adhered with Stampin’ Dimensionals. Happy Birthday was stamped on a small piece of the First Edition Specialty Paper and was cut out with scissors. Last, I added a piece of Victoria Crochet Trim and a button to match.  All products, except the button, are Stampin’ Up!

Sponged Background

Don’t you just love sponged and brayered backgrounds? I know I do! This one was done by sponging Perfect Plum, Tangerine Tango, Peach Parfait, Rose Red, Daffodil Yellow, and So Saffron Inks over the tree image which was first embossed in black on the Whisper White background.

Bringing Back the Old

Sometimes you just can’t put away retired stamps or products! I love using this Mellow Moss Card Stock and ink in vintage cards. Even the greeting is from a retired 2005 Stampin’ Up! set (Happy Occasions)!
You can’t tell very well in the photo, but the trim has been lightly sponged with the Mellow Moss Ink, as well. Stampin’ Ups! Victoria Crochet Trim (118481) can be sponged with different color inks or can be dyed by using a few drops of one of the ink refills.
I also used stamps from the Baby Blossoms Stamp Set, which was in the Occasions Mini Catalog.

Party Invitaton

Just thought I’d share this card with you. A friend asked me to make invitations for a birthday party for her mother and daughter. She wanted purples, flowers, butterflies and whatever else I could fit on the front of them! So this is what she got! She said she loved them, so that made me very happy!

Easter Blossoms

Here are three of the cards from this week’s class. This card was first made for the Saturday Sketch Challenge. The forth card was made for the last Sketch Frenzy Friday and was posted earlier this week. Hope you like them all!
Both the Easter Blossoms Stamp Set and the First Edition Specialty Paper from the Occasions Mini Catalog will be gone soon! The Occasions Mini Catalog sales period ends April 30, 2011. Lucky for me, there are 24 sheets of 12 x 12 paper in the pack because I love it! I made sure I ordered an extra pack. The flowers from the Easter Blossoms Set are stamped in Old Olive Ink on the paper, which was then torn and sponged with more Old Olive. It makes such a unique background.
I appreciate of your feedback so please let me know what you think. Thanks for visiting and have a great day! Terry

Because I Care

When I first saw the Because I Care Stamp Set, which is a Level 1 Hostess Gift in the Idea Book and Catalog, I didn’t like it at all! After receiving it and using it once, however, I loved it. I have used it so many times now. The flower image is gorgeous! Here it is embossed in gold, sponged with Regal Rose Ink and covered Frost White Shimmer Paint. And don’t you just love the mini tags!

Monday Card Class – Background Techniques

This week I used different background techniques on all 4 cards we made. When you design your own background paper, you can match it with the other pieces of your card perfectly!  All of the Stampin’ Up Ink Pads match the colors of their cardstock.  In fact, for each color of cardstock in the catalog, there are matching inks, markers, buttons, and ribbons (pgs 165-169)!  Two different images were stamped on the white cardstock and it was run through the Big Shot with the small dotted Texturz Plate.  You can’t tell by looking at this picture, but after the card was put together, I used Vanilla Shimmer Smooch Spritz (118772) to make the paper look shimmery.  It’s so much fun to use and what a difference it makes!

Presto Patterns Designer Specialty paper.

The Presto Patterns Specialty Paper (117175) is so cool!  The actual paper appears white with white glossy designs that hardly show up until you ink it.  I just sponged on Tempting Turquoise, Tangerine Tango, Regal Rose, and Pumpkin Pie inks to make this gorgeous background.  I figured the depressed-looking, little lady on the stamp needed something bright and cheerful in her life!
